Backyard Chickens Informational Workshop

Thursday, May 28 at 6PM to 7PM

Community Room at City Hall

Dr. Mickey Hall, Professor Emeritus of Animal and Veterinary Sciences at Clemson University will give a short presentation on keeping small flocks of chickens. A question and answer session will follow the presentation. All residents are invited to attend to learn more and discuss support for or concerns about backyard chickens in Clemson neighborhoods.

A number of residents have approached the city about updating its code to allow chickens within city limits. Many South Carolina cities, such as Greenville and Columbia allow residents to keep a limited number of chickens. Concerns around backyard chickens often include noise and odor, two issues that can be addressed with proper management. Proponents view backyard chickens as a source of fresh, local eggs and compost. Chickens also provide non-chemical pest control and free garden tilling as they forage for insects. Learn more and share your thoughts at the May 28th workshop.
