City Police Installs Downtown Cameras

A year long process has finally come to completion. The possibility of implementing street cameras was proposed during the 2009/2010 fiscal year. Following a presentation to City Council, the Police Department administration along with the IT Manager for the City were charged with completing research, developing a budget, and finally a strategy for implementation. In February of 2011 a vendor was selected and the installation process was narrowed down. Beginning in May of 2011 the installation began on seven (7) cameras with four (4) lenses each strategically located between College Ave. and Edgewood Ave. up through the downtown business district to College Ave. and Highway 93. July 2011 the installation was complete. The cameras can be viewed within the 911 Communications Center of the Department and by the supervisors from the mobile laptops within their patrol vehicles. The desire of the police department is to do everything possible to ensure we have as safe an environment as we can provide for those operating a business within the downtown district; and those visiting that part of the City. The installation of street cameras is a huge step in that direction.
