GIS Geographic Information Systems

Utilities

We are currently installing a geographic information system for use with our mapping.

GIS is the merging of cartography, statistical analysis and database technology. GIS may be used in geography, cartography, remote sensing, land surveying, public utility management, natural resource management, urban planning, emergency management.

A GIS can be thought of as a system - it digitally creates and "manipulates" spatial areas. This will allow the City of Clemson greater flexibility in the coming years and to allow us to bridge across all of our departments.

We are currently developing our mapping and expanding our data base. This work is accomplished in house with some guidance from a consultant to set up our structure for our filing system.
